A water-driven dosing pump uses the flow and pressure of your water supply to power itself, so it needs no electricity at the point of injection. As water passes through, it draws in concentrate and mixes it into the line at a set ratio, and because the dose follows the flow, the mix stays in proportion when demand changes.
Choosing the right one comes down to four questions: how much water flows, at what pressure, what dose rate you need, and which chemical you are injecting. This guide compares the three main families we supply, MixRite, Dosmatic and Chemilizer, and points you to the right one for livestock, irrigation, cleaning and low-flow jobs.
Short answer: MixRite is used across livestock, agriculture, sanitation and commercial cleaning. Dosmatic covers everything from small, precise doses to high-flow systems. Chemilizer suits low flow and water that carries sand or minerals. For drinking-water medication, AquaBlend is built for the job.
The four questions that decide the pump
1. How much water flows?
Every pump has a working flow range. Choose one that covers the lowest and highest flow it will see, not just the average. As a guide, MixRite 3/4 inch models run from 0.12 to 41 L/min, Chemilizer 9000 models from 0.08 to 41 L/min, MiniDos models from 0.11 to 45 L/min, SuperDos models up to 76 L/min, and AquaBlend from 0.17 to 41 L/min.
2. What is your water pressure?
Each model has a working pressure range, so check yours before you choose. MixRite models operate from 0.2 to 8 bar, Chemilizer 9000 from 0.2 to 5.8 bar, MiniDos from about 0.4 to 9.7 bar, SuperDos from 0.21 to 6.9 bar, and AquaBlend from 0.3 to 6.2 bar.
3. What dose rate do you need?
The injection range is the percentage of concentrate mixed into the water, and some models are fixed while others are adjustable. MixRite models span roughly 0.1% to 10%, MiniDos from 0.025% to 20%, Chemilizer 9000 from 0.2% to 5%, and AquaBlend comes in a 0.4% to 2% model and a 1% to 5% model. Always set the dose from the chemical label.
4. Which chemical are you injecting?
Seals and internal parts have to suit the chemical. MixRite uses Hastelloy springs and Viton seals and is compatible with a wide range of chemicals. Chemilizer offers Silicone and Viton components for resilience against harsh chemicals. AquaBlend Xtreme handles both liquid chemicals and wettable powders, and publishes a list of compatible cleaners that includes citric acid, hydrogen peroxide, peracetic acid (5% or less) and chlorine (500 ppm or less).
MixRite, Dosmatic and Chemilizer compared
Figures vary by model, so confirm the exact model on the product page.
| Pump | Best for | Flow | Pressure | Dose range | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| MixRite (3/4 inch) | Livestock, agriculture, sanitation and commercial cleaning | 0.12 to 41 L/min | 0.2 to 8 bar | About 0.1% to 10%, fixed and adjustable | Starts automatically with water flow; Hastelloy springs and Viton seals |
| Dosmatic MiniDos | Small, precise doses through to higher flows | 0.11 to 45 L/min | 0.41 to 9.7 bar | 0.025% to 20% | Wide range of models |
| Dosmatic SuperDos | Larger flows | Up to 76 L/min | 0.21 to 6.9 bar | 0.025% to 10% | 1 inch connections |
| Chemilizer 9000 | Low flow, and water with sand or minerals | 0.08 to 41 L/min | 0.2 to 5.8 bar | 0.2% to 5%, fixed and adjustable | Diaphragm water motor, no water filtration needed |
| AquaBlend | Drinking-water medication, vaccination and line cleaning | 0.17 to 41 L/min | 0.3 to 6.2 bar | 0.4% to 2% or 1% to 5% | Tool-free maintenance; AquaBlend Xtreme handles wettable powders |
Which pump suits which job
- Livestock and poultry drinking water: AquaBlend and AquaBlend Xtreme are designed for medication, vaccination and water treatment, and MixRite is used to inject treatments such as antibiotics, probiotics and supplements, adjusting to variations in water pressure or animal consumption. Always follow the product label and veterinary advice. For more, see our Animal Health page.
- Irrigation and fertigation: MixRite and Dosmatic both mix nutrients and other water-soluble products into irrigation water. Our fertigation guide covers set-up in detail, and the Agriculture page shows the full range.
- Cleaning, sanitising and disinfection: MixRite is suited to commercial cleaning and disinfection tasks, including restaurants, hospitals and car wash facilities, and to disinfecting water lines. AquaBlend Xtreme is compatible with common line-cleaning chemicals. See our Kitchen and Processing pages.
- Low flow, or dirty and mineral-heavy water: Chemilizer’s diaphragm water motor is unaffected by sand or mineral content, performs well at low flow rates and needs no water filtration.
- Moving between areas: The MixRite Cart is a full mobile dilution post with a spray gun, and the Mobile Fertigator mounts a Dosmatic SuperDos on a trolley.
Protect the pump from grit
Whichever pump you choose, debris in the supply wears the parts that do the measuring, and a filter upstream is the simplest protection. Chemilizer is the exception, because its diaphragm water motor is unaffected by sand or minerals. For MixRite, Dosmatic and AquaBlend installations, see our guide to why your dosing pump needs a water filter and the Twist II Clean self cleaning filter.
Three common mistakes
- Sizing to the average flow instead of the lowest and highest flow the pump will see.
- Choosing on dose rate alone and overlooking pressure range and seal compatibility.
- Skipping filtration on a gritty supply.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a MixRite and a Dosmatic injector?
Both are water-driven proportional injectors that need no electricity at the point of injection. MixRite is used across livestock, agriculture, sanitation and commercial cleaning, with fixed and adjustable dose rates, and starts automatically with water flow. Dosmatic covers everything from small, precise doses to high-flow applications, including the MiniDos and SuperDos ranges. The better fit depends on your flow, pressure and dose rate.
Do I need a filter with a water-driven dosing pump?
Debris in the supply wears the parts that do the measuring, so a filter upstream is the simplest protection. Chemilizer is the exception: its diaphragm water motor is unaffected by sand or mineral content, with no need for water filtration.
Does a water-driven dosing pump need electricity?
No. A water-driven dosing pump is powered by the flow and pressure of the water passing through it, so no mains power, batteries or controller is needed at the injection point.
What dose rate can a water-driven dosing pump deliver?
It depends on the model. MixRite models span roughly 0.1% to 10%, MiniDos models run from 0.025% to 20%, Chemilizer 9000 models from 0.2% to 5%, and AquaBlend comes in a 0.4% to 2% model and a 1% to 5% model. Always set the dose from the chemical label.
Can I use a dosing pump for livestock drinking water?
Yes. AquaBlend is designed for medication, vaccination and water treatment, and MixRite is used to inject treatments such as antibiotics, probiotics and supplements into the water line. Always follow the product label and veterinary advice for dose rates.
How do I size a dosing pump for my flow rate?
Choose a model whose flow range covers the lowest and highest flow it will see, not just the average, then check the pressure range and seal compatibility for your chemical. Contact the DSA team with your application and we will match a model.
